Wat Phra That Doi Suthep - The unique ancient temple in Chiang Mai, Thailand

To reach the temple, you have to climb 309 steps stone steps. 600 year old golden temple is made with spiers at the top and surrounded by temple architectures and monasteries.


Wat Phra That Doi Suthep is a splendid but peaceful temple, like a gold crown that Chiang Mai solemnly placed on top of the mountain. There is only fresh air with pleasant weather and clouds drifting away.

There are many legends to be woven around this particular pagoda. There is a story that the temple was built to preserve an ancient relic of the Buddha. It was in the last decades of the fourteenth century, under the emperor Nu Naone in the ancient Lanna kingdom.

The relic is the fragment of the Buddha's shoulder blades, accompanied by the legendary legends of this relic passed down from old people in Chiang Mai. The sacredness of the temple was further enhanced when the site of the temple coincided with what was recorded in the book.

The temple impressed many visitors by the stately Buddha statues. These statues are placed on the right side of the temple at the entrance. These are the most unique statues, showing majestic beauty, sacred, bearing bold historical and human.

Phrathat Doi Suthep has impressive architecture both inside and outside. The temple is made of very special materials, gilded with leaves and granite, creating a beautiful sparkle. You will meet right at the walkway with two large dragons carved unique, crawling along the steps leading to the main hall. Their heads look up to the sky symbolizing respect and submission to some supreme power.


The temple has a large tower, located in the heart of Wat Prathat. This temple is also covered with golden layers of shine. This is the place to store pieces of shoulder bone, relics of the Buddha. Around the tower are two bronze, shiny bronze Buddha statues and small relics are beautifully decorated everywhere. In addition, there are special bell rings, yellow, engraved many visitors from many different parts in the world.
